How Maiden Voyage began...
My love for sailing began by racing with the Waikawa Boating Club and then Royal Port Nic in Wellington.
This grew to a love of the water and later became my career. From water taxi driving on Sydney Harbour to 5 years on superyachts in the Mediterranean, then working on the Ningaloo Reef taking people swimming with Whale Sharks, Manta Rays and friendly Tiger sharks. I spent 2 years in Vanuatu as a cruise director and tourism skipper and then drove 24m barges off Western Australia. I have sailed to Tonga and now have a little yacht called Cheeky.
I have been commercially skippering for 20 years and had many wonderful and scary experiences on the water.
My favourite spot was working in one of David Attenborough's described 8th wonder of the world - The Kimberley's in the second largest tide in the world moving at 18 knots in Spring Tides creating standing waves, whirl pools and surrounded by crocodiles!! I then added a teaching qualification and my dream of empowering women on the water began. I started off concentrating on women only courses which grew into couples, solo male boaties and lots of later in life cruisers. I love helping people to enjoy our beautiful coastline and waterways as much as I do in the safest and most fun way.
